Introduction of Storage Classes

According to different data access frequencies and different cost requirements, KS3 provides three classes of storages: standard, infrequent access, and archiving:

  • Standard storage class: Provide general-purpose Object storage services, suitable for frequently-accessed and hotspot-prone data, such as audios, videos, pictures and Website static resources, as well as the data with lower latency and high throughput performance.

  • Infrequent access storage class: Suitable for infrequent access business scenarios, and suitable for long-term storage and less-frequently-accessed data. Infrequent storage can keep the access latency at a millisecond level while reducing the storage prices. It can ensure no-wait and high-speed reading for users’ data retrieval scenarios. However, it has certain requirements on storage duration. If a document with less than 30 days’ storage duration is deleted in advance, certain costs will be incurred. Whether for intranet or extranet, data retrieval will also incur costs.

  • Archiving storage class: Applicable for the business scenarios with very low access frequency after data is stored. Suitable for storing the data that needs long-term storage and rare access. Compared with the standard storage and infrequent access storage, the archiving storage can provide the same data reliability and service availability, while greatly reducing the cost of storage. But it will take 1 to 10 minutes of restore time for data to enter a readable state, so this class is suitable for the data that need long-term storage, such medical images, archives, business logs and video materials. The archiving storage type has the minimum storage time. If an Object with less than 90 days’ storage duration is deleted in advance, certain costs will be incurred. In addition, when reading the data in the archiving storage, a data retrieval fee will be incurred.
